Summer Camp 2025 Highlights

As summer comes to a close, we are looking back fondly on all the memories we made this season during Summer Camp 2025 at Vine & Branches Lutheran Church & Childcare in Aldie, Virginia. From “Planting & Farming” to “Artistic Inspiration”, we had a fantastic time discovering and learning across all our themed weeks.

Lego to Summer Camp!” We started the summer off strong in June as we worked together to create, plan, and build using various building tools and resources, just like engineers! We learned the importance of structure in the building process and expressed our individual creativity in our projects. Team and individual challenges included building the tallest, strongest, widest, and most stable buildings.

During our second week of Summer Camp, we went on an Alaskan adventure as we connected with the children of Vine & Branches’ congregation and our local community during True North Vacation Bible School week. Pastor Chris taught us to TRUST JESUS as our guide as we grow in our faith and to lean on him as our faithful and dependable friend. Our classrooms were transformed into magical Alaskan rooms where our volunteers acted out and engaged with our children in Bible stories and hands-on activities to strengthen their experience. Everyone went home with their bag of special VBS characters they met throughout the week. We are excited to continue our VBS week in the coming years!

During our Planting and Farming week, we discovered the joy of gardening and got to try some new foods. Our field trip to Great Country Farms was the highlight of the week! We heard about the needs of, and care involved in operating a farm, got to pick our own sunflowers, and engaged with some really cute new farm animal friends. The playgrounds, mazes, and bounce pillows brought the whole day together!

SHARK WEEK! We took a deep dive into the oceans during week four of Summer Camp and discovered some interesting creatures. Games and activities this week focused on water fun and of course the most fearsome animals of the sea, sharks! Our campers researched and presented what they learned about various sharks and compared the differences of this incredibly diverse species! Some were so strange, we couldn’t help but “swim away doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo.”

Week Five focused on S.T.E.A.M subjects (science, technology, engineering, art, and math), during which we participated in some fun hands-on projects such as making balloon rockets, painting with citrus, foaming science experiments, and building with marshmallows. The culmination of our week was a field trip to the Udvar-Hazy National Air & Space Museum. Even though our students saw and engaged in a variety of museum activities, they especially enjoyed getting a close up look at the massive planes!

In our sixth week of Summer Camp, we dove headfirst into Sports Mania! Our days were filled with energy and excitement as we participated in a variety of sports. We got moving and active, honing our skills, exercising our bodies, and expanding our gross motor movement abilities. Just like Olympians, we had fun earning our own gold medals and engaging in teambuilding while staying active and fit!

We put our creativity to the test during our seventh week with Artistic Inspiration. We used many forms of media to express our artistic talents, from tape to painting and even natural elements we scavenged for such as leaves and seashells. During a session with Kidcreate Studios, we even got to bring our favorite cartoon characters to life right in front of our eyes! Another highlight of the week was the opportunity to create paper mâché bowls. Things got a little messy, so we naturally had a blast!

They’re slimy and tickly, tiny and prickly. Week eight was all about Creepy Crawlies at Vine & Branches. We explored the outside world and all the creatures in it with activities and games inspired by different insects. We explored our expansive campus during nature walks to see which mini critters were roaming about and collected a few “bugs” to use in our creative projects. Our adventures may have left us with the heebie-jeebies, but we had a thrilling time learning about the world of bugs!
